Comparative Analysis of the Clinical Management of the Emergency Center in the Republic of Korea and the United States

Abstract
Background : To collect comparable data elements from the clinical management of the Emergency Center for analysis and comparison.

Method : Using data from annual reports and observation from a one-year period, feature including injury and illness property, major essential components of the emergency center were utilized.

Result : Injury and illness properties are similar but psychiatric emergency patient at UMMC(the University of Massachusetts Medical Center) are five times greater than that of WUMC(the Wonkwang University Medical Center). Admission rate at UMMC is slightly higher than that of WUMC. Mortality at UMMC is five times greater than that of WUMC. At UMMC, a life flight helicopter system is operated and the ambulance system has paramedics. At UMMC, the Clinical Decision Unit(CDU) is managed, and the trauma team and toxicology service are well operated.

Conclusion : In comparison to UMMC Emergency Center, the injury and illness property is similar except for psychiatric emergency patients. The comparison of the major essential components of the Emergency Center is similar to the United states, but medical staffing, equipment, and facilities for emergency care must be replaced in the future. The Korean Emergency Center must evolve in accordance with their unique social culture and economical condition.
